Lazy days in Merida...

We spend our days here in Merida mostly walking walking walking.  Looking at all the lovely homes that have been restored and sitting in the lovely parks and squares here.  We love our local market Santiago, with its food booths and friendly vendors.

Our favorite is La Lupita, where we have been for the last three mornings eating various things, mostly the conchita pork sandwiches!  Yesterday I had a club torta which in addition to pulled pork had ham and cheese and some vinegary slaw on it... wonderful!  Our evening have been spent walking to the main square in the centro historico which is about 6 blocks from our house.  We usually stop for a drink in the square and then wander to find somewhere to eat.  We had a wonderful pizza last night for $6!

Most days we have spent doing nothing! Hahha love that! We have been reading and doing mundane things like hand washing clothes and shopping for food to fill up our fridge.  Something about hanging up your own washing that is terribly relaxing...wouldn't think so at home though!

We are going to cut our stay here a little short though, we miss the coast so we are leaving Merida on the 12th and heading to Chelem and Casa Rosa.  E-mailed her last night to say we are coming on the 12th instead of a week later.  We need to get back to Isla for the 20th, for details on the house.  They were very kind and said no problem.

Also when we get to Isla we just booked a 14 night stay at Maria Pilar in the centro of isla.  Gladys Galdamez and her husband have this small hotel, which is adorable and very reasonable.  I know Gladys from a couple of years ago on our first stay on Isla at her other apartments in the centro.  Everything she puts her hand to whether it be designing clothes or leasing apartments, she has a women's touch and her accomodations show this in the decorations and all the touches you need to feel at home.  We can't wait to stay here.

We are doing really well on the money as well!  Damn, its so easy to live cheaply here, love it!  We will stay with her for two weeks then move to Maria Leticia for the rest of our stay on Isla, which will end on the 24th of April.

Spoke to Joe Mendez our realtor/owner yesterday and things are moving along fine with the details of the house.  We hope to see digital plans of the whole thing anyday now.  We are crazy excited about that! Can't wait to see what it will look like and the architects vision.  We will be able to fine tune from the there exactly what we want and need in our new home.

Here are some random pics of the last few days....

  1. That is really great that you got to stay in Merida for at least a short time. The Mayan culture there is wonderful, and the people are so warm. Peek in to a few of the churches around there too, if you haven't already. Take more random local people photos too! :) The jewelry and souvenir shopping are cheaper there in Merida as well.
Looking forward to hearing/seeing your plans for your house. So exciting!! xxxxx
