Details...

This will be my last post until we move into our new HOUSE!

Pavers are done in front, master bathroom being tiled, sinks are gorgeous! Love the tumbled marble on shower walls, can't wait to see the shower fixture go in. Toilet is in.

Windows arrive this week...still loads to be done but coming together quickly.  Joe has our beds and other items from Costco, he is storing them for us.  Living room furniture is still at least two weeks out!
Iron railing are on there way.

Liverpool called today and our appliances are ready for pick up!

I sat up on the roof deck the last two days, once in the morning and another time in the afternoon...wanted to see where the sun hit the smal pool/jacuzzi we will have up there.  Absolutely gobsmacked that this is ours.

Ok no more pics until its DONE!

Hasta...

We are getting close!

Its a very exciting time for us right now, the house is nearing completion and is looking gorgeous!

We are so happy with all the details and surprised by some, pleasantly I might add.  One of the guys was grouting the rock wall and it looks so pretty.  We also have a water spout feature on the side of the pool coming out of the rock wall that I was unaware of.  Can't wait to see this at night with the lights on out there!

They have started tiling the living room and have finished the stairs to the first floor, they are doing an amazing beautiful job on the tile.  Seeing as Graham is such a wonderful tile mason and he is very impressed with their work.  We are so excited to see the first floor all the way out to the pool tiled.  It will be such a wonderful flow to the sea and I am sure will make it look very spacious as well.

The cabinets in the kitchen are going in as well as the cupboards below.  I was worried about the small space that was left for the fridge and Domingo reminded me of the appliance links I sent to him.  They did it to scale so I just hope both the stove and the fridge we picked out will still be available at Liverpool.  We must go next week and purchase these!

We picked out a really cool super slim LG fridge, completely flat front and tall.  Bottom freezer with three pull out trays.  The stove is a Teka 36in, 5 burner stove with rotisserie!! Omg love that! They are going to look fabulous in the kitchen.

The roof top is tiled as well, they have left space for the small plunge pool we will have up there. Oh and the roof tiles are going on!! Love those.

Joe went to Costco yesterday and bought us some wonderful shower fixtures, two king mattresses, cutlery, dishes and a washer/dryer combo!  Yeehaw!  He also said he purchased and On Demand Hot Water system for the house.  He arranged for a truck and these will be delivered today I think.  Saved us a MAJOR hassle seeing as these needed to purchased at Costco and they don't deliver.  The furniture we bought and the appliances we are buying will be delivered so we are set for the big stuff!

Here are some random pics of the progress...

Casa Woodbridge November 2012

Been awhile since I have posted been having technical issues...hahaa....

Life here is good! The weather has taken a turn just about the time Hurricane Sandy hit the east coast.  It did cause some waves here but that's about it. The weather at the moment is spectacular.  Low humidity and lovely breezes...house is coming along great!

pool in front love the shape!

Sea wall in front
The pool/deck area is going in and we love it! We have been to Cancun a couple of times to look at furniture and appliances.  Appliance we have found no problem but furniture is another matter.  Need to find a couch we like and a dining table.  I think we have decided to have the dining table made.  There is a fabulous carpenter here on the island that did some of the furniture at Isla 33.  We hope to get him to do our dining table.  We have decided to do a high buffet style dining table with stools underneath so I can use it as a prep station for cooking as well as countertop space is at a minimum in the kitchen.

The bedrooms are tiled and the bathroom upstairs, they are tiling the roof deck as we speak.  Also the carpenter has finished the closets in the master and is now on the 2nd bedroom.  He will then start on the kitchen cabinets.  We have picked out the most lovely granite for kitchen countertops.  Its darkish, greeny, with some black and gold.  It will give us the contrast we need against the beautiful off white marble floors.  The front doors are being made.  Pablo showed us the pavers we will have out front, lovely!  We still need to decide shower surrounds in both bathrooms and we want different tile on the floor in the bathroom downstairs.

We also need to pick out fixtures for sinks and toilets and fans, etc.  All fun stuff! It really is going to be so beautiful.  We now have arches on either side of the master balcony we we love! It creates such a cozy space and the view thru the arches is wow! I do think this we will my favorite place.

We are going to Cancun again today.  We will visit Telebodega to see about furniture again and there is a market we need to go to as well...here is a few more pics of the progress.

It is kind of hard to describe life here on Isla...  I love waking up here! I am up early as I adore the mornings here.  I take my walk to the house get a coffee and sit on the sea wall and just think about how lucky we are to be able to do this.  It really is a dream.

We have met some wonderful people, ex-pats and locals.  Graham has befriended many of the local fisherman and the guys at the ferry, we went to dinner at one of their houses last week.  It was a 17 year anniversary for Albert and Christina.  They cooked us shrimp and lobster and we had the most lovely time with them even though we don't speak alot of spanish somehow we managed to communicate and had a lot of laughs.  We have been invited back for New Years day for Rellano Negro, a black turkey soup that the grandma makes along with traditional Yucatan dishes.  We can't wait for that.  I didn't have my camera last time...damn!

So many things and all of them good...days at the beach, breakfast at the mercado, siesta's and more.  Also taking spanish lessons twice a week with Christy Dix, who I love.  Its a slow process but I am learning and am very motivated to speak spanish as it is so important to developing relationships with locals.

What can I say but that we are very very happy to be here and we aren't even in the house yet...

I promise to post more often now I have figured out issues....hasta...

Exciting things happening at the CASA!!

Some really cool stuff is happening at the house now.  The sea front side has been dug out and fabulous rock wall has been erected.  They are using the 95 years or more stone from the original home that was there...we love this!!! This is to all along the side the pool is on.

The arch has been completed in the kitchen, the beautiful tile has been installed in the master bedroom and into the master bath.  We are still considering what material for countertops and shower walls.  Think we want this beautiful orangy granite they have down at Isla 33.  Then a smooth pebble shower floor.  I love the way that stuff feels on your feet! Then counter tops in the same granite.

The front door is in!!! The top two windows will open with decorative black iron on windows.  Second bath downstairs door is in as well.  Carpenter will be there for some time now, he has closet doors and drawers to make and well as bedroom doors.

We are getting so close!!! OMG, I saw the most adorable puppy for sale today.  This lady is a neighbor of ours and said it was for sale, going to take a pic today.

One month in....

Well we have been here almost one month and are loving it! Everyday here is a gift! My favorite time on Isla is in the mornings as I have said on numerous occasions.  I take my walk down the malecon sea side to the house and see the progress.  I usually have an enormous smile on my face, the minute I see that beautiful water.  It is so uplifting!

The house is really coming along! The carpenters are there, starting to do all the woodwork for the windows, cabinets and doors.  A couple of days ago we designed the master bedroom closet. I am now looking at furniture ideas on line.  The kitchen is not big and all appliances and countertops will be along one wall.  Need to be a bit creative as the space is minimal.  I am looking into banquette seating in the kitchen area along the opposite wall.  I think it will save space and I like the look of it.  It will also provide more storage as I want drawers underneath.  I think if we do this I can than have a skinny island as well as coutertop space is at a minimum.

It is going to be so beautiful though...they are doing the finish plastering on the outside of the house and also the decorative cap all around the top of the house.  We also needed more room for the a/c compressors.  Had to give up some of the seating on the roof deck for this but Joe said we could build them into and under a countertop which will be great.  We have also decided to forgo the wooden decking on the roof.  Too much maintenance.  So we are going with the marble stone on the roof the same as what is going to be on the floor inside the house.  It will be gorgeous!  There will be a wooden pergola around the seating area with lighting as well.

The last part of the old house on the sea front is still there, can't wait for that to be gone!  They have dug out a large hole outside the kitchen to prepare for the pool and decking that will go straight out.  I went there this morning and its really big! The pool should be a decent size and also extends the living space.  We will be putting a table out there and I think there will be room for a gas bbq as well.

Really excited about the double spanish colonial front doors. Domingo the architect did a drawing for me last week which I loved.  The doors will have small windows with black iron pulls and hinges!! So excited for that.  Shopping trips to Cancun will probably start soon.  We need EVERYTHING!

Hoping that we can get alot of this delivered but we will have to see.  I want a platform bed for the bedroom and a big ass flat screen tv as well.  It also looks like I will have room for a small desk in the corner for computer.  Master bath is amazing!!! We will have granite coutertops with cupboards underneath and floating sinks.  As I said before we designed the closet as Pablo was going to leave it bare. I was like "oh no" we need to have this closed off somehow.  So we designed a cupboard for clothing with two rods one higher than the other and underneath two large drawers.  On the right of that will be open shelving for towels and kicknacks with another couple of large drawers beneath.

OH!!! and the best is we get BLACK IRON RAILINGS!!!! YAHOO! We will have decorative black iron railings on all balconys front and back....SO excited for that.  Domingo agreed that this will fit the style of the house much better than wood.  There is a maintenance issue with these but there is for wood as well.  It will just have to be sealed every year.

Thats about it for now...
